Jewelry Trends 2008: Academy Awards in Style!

The 2008 Academy Awards were presented last night and with few exceptions earrings and bracelets ruled as the celebrities walked the red carpet.

What's New in Earrings:

'Pod' type earrings were shown in abundance, both in 3 and 2 dimensional mode. Literally, think of a seed pod. This dangling earring type was shown with about a 1 inch drop from the post with the 'pod' type dangle hanging downward from the drop.

Celebrity Pod Style:

  • Sarah Larson wore a stunning pair of dangling earrings with a leaf shaped 2 dimensional drop. Mostly covered by her hair, when she tossed her head the earrings peeked out to good effect.

  • Amy Ryan worn a spectacular pair of dangling earrings with a 3 dimensional pod dangle set with diamonds.

  • Kelly Preston also wore this earring style, in gold with a circular dangle.

Door Knob Diamond Earrings:

Hilary Swank's ear piercing was hung with large, door knob type round diamond earrings set in a simple prong setting. Large solitaires in a simple setting is a timeless look that is always appropriate for these types of events. She looked stunning.

Anne Hathaway wore a pair of 2 diamond cushion cut smaller dangle earrings. The first diamond coming from the post was smaller, prong set with an approximately 3 times larger second hanging diamond. Proportionally, the diamonds played off each other and looked very appropriate with Hathaway's hair style and facial shape.

Jessica Alba was sporting her own door knob - that of her diamond solitaire worn on her left hand. She wore a pair of Cartier wide gold hoop earrings in a unexaggerated crescent moon shape. These earrings were quite bohemian/gypsy style.

Hot Pink and Red:

Red was a favorite color for gowns this year. Most celebrities wearing red teamed their garment with diamonds. One notable exception was Heidi Klum who looked fabulous in a red dress, hot pink colored dangling earrings and hand bag with pink lipstick.

Bracelets:

Two types of bracelets dominated. The first was a wide, jeweled, flexible full cuff bracelet that draped around the wrist extending slightly onto the top of the hand. This type of bracelet draws favorable attention to that proportionally small part of the female form.

Bangle karated gold bracelets were also worn - multiple bangles on one wrist.
